The past two years are difficult to describe. I am by nature an optimist and will naturally try to see the positive in all aspects of life – even my own. There were times where the impact of the pandemic on our lives was felt in such a way that it was difficult to see a ray of hope.

2021 has especially been a very sad and sorrow filled year – both in my personal life and those of my patients and their families. My beloved father passed in January of cancer and my dear friend of COVID in March. My secretary and my best friend from school both lost their fathers. The isolation and loneliness felt by all, especially our elderly, is unthinkable. The majority of people also experienced mental health problems. Mental health problems in the sub-21-year-old group have seen a dramatic increase.

I see the pandemic as the ‘world war’ of our times. During trying times we re-evaluate who and what we see as important. May we all prioritize what we have identified as important!

I am starting 2022 with new hope and optimism – I love my family and I love my work and I love life!
